ANDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Deputies are piecing together a puzzle after they say a man with a "stomach injury" was discovered to have a gunshot wound after being taken to the hospital following a crash on i-75 in Anderson County, according to the Anderson County Sheriff's Office.

An ACSO news releases states that officers were called to the crash scene around 5 a.m. Sunday, and found a red Kia that had gone off the road and into a ditch. Charles J. Hopper, of Speedwell, was inside the vehicle with what he called a "stomach wound," officers say. He refused treatment, and was taken to Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge by his mother-in-law, who was also at the scene.

Once Hopper arrived at the hospital, officers were told he was being transferred to UT Medical Center, because the "stomach injury" was a gunshot wound. The shooting apparently happened in Claiborne County.

Hopper's wife, Erica Charlene Hopper, 33, also of Speedwell, was arrested on the scene and charged with DUI.

Deputies say they also found some marijuana inside Erica Hopper's mother's car. The drugs apparently came from the Kia, deputies say, but no drug charges have been placed against anyone involved.

Erica Hooper is currently charged with DUI, violation of implied consent, registration violation and driving while uninsured. She's being held in the Anderson County Detention Facility on a $6,000 bond.

VolunteerTV.com has a call in to a Claiborn County Sheriff's Department investigator seeking details of the shooting.
