ANDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) – Authorities say quick thinking by a homeowner and the actions of a passerby helped them quickly arrest three people following a burglary.
The Anderson County Sheriff’s Department said a woman called 9-1-1 just after 2 p.m. Tuesday when she pulled up to her East Wolf Valley Road home in Heiskell and spotted a suspicious car parked behind her house.
Fearing for the safety of her three young grandchildren with her, she called police and waited at the entrance to her driveway. While deputies were on their way, three people got into the suspicious car and started to flee the scene. In the process, they struck the woman’s pick-up truck.
A passing motorist witnessed the incident and also called 911. They continued to follow the suspect’s vehicle until losing it near Norris Freeway.
Deputies immediately put out a “Be on the Lookout” bulletin to surrounding law enforcement agencies. Deputy Rick Coley spotted the car turning onto Norris Freeway and with the help of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, was able to pull the suspects over at the county line after a short pursuit.
Inside the vehicle they allegedly found stolen items from the burglary. Deputies said other stolen items were found along the highway after the suspects tossed them from the car during the chase.
All three people in the vehicle were taken into custody and face a variety of charges.
Justen Wayne Hatmaker, 19 of Lake City was charged with aggravated burglary, theft of items with a value between $500 and $999, felony reckless endangerment, felony evading arrest and violation of probation. His bond was set at $85,000.
Brittany Denise Crowe, 20 of Knoxville was charged with aggravated burglary, theft of items with a value between $500 and $999, felony reckless endangerment and tampering with evidence. Her bond was set at $120,000.
Trina Cristella Blalock, 23 of Oliver Springs was charged with aggravated burglary, theft of items with a value between $500 and $999 and violation probation. Her bond was set at $60,000 and a hold was placed on her for warrants out of Morgan County.
All three remained in the Anderson County Detention Center early Wednesday morning.
