Ready, Set, CLOSED!

Happy Monday!

There's nothing like waking up Monday morning to rain huh? At least it's not sticking around for long, and it's definitely good news it's not going to be coming down on Thursday!! Yep, Thursday, May 1st at midnight, all the SmartFix 40 changes take place...hopefully you've started thinking about how it changes your commute. Maybe it doesn't affect your travels at all, but if it does, start using the new routes as soon as possible! It's tricky out there, but we've been talking about it here at the station, and some of the best advice we can give you, at least I think, is to pay attention to those signs! Most of them have changed, so in the next few days, check them out.

Alright, now let's get real, this is going to cause some SERIOUS headaches. It's a major construction project, and that could mean major problems, but that's why it's so important everyone does their part to make it as smooth as possible. We've got all the information for you here on our webchannel, and will have updates for you all the time on Volunteer TV. All week on East Tennessee This Morning we'll be talking about a different part of the closure. We'll have routes mapped out for you so Thursday will be a breeze! Yep, today we were out there in the pouring rain....Nate's still running around in his soaking wet jeans! Poor Nate!

So how have your commutes been? Have any stories to tell....advice to give....routes you've found to pass along? Let me know! The easier we can make this transition the better!

Be safe out there and keep smiling and your sunglasses handy, the sun is on it's way back!

See you in the morning,

Allison

An easier, cheaper and heathy way to get around those construction zones is riding a bycicle but is very dangerous at the same time!! That's why I ride it at the cades cove loop at 7AM before 10AM when they let traffic in. anyway, slow down and follow the detour signs and watch for construction workers!!

Thanks Allison and WVLT for all the updates and advice for all us us orange barrel dodgers that will have our I-40 commute turned up-side down, come Friday morning. As you have stated, and another blogger,it will take EVERYONE to do their part,(especially in the beginning)to help make it easier. Be much more forgiving and considerate of other drivers, map out alternate rtes. ahead of time if possible, and if all else fails,we can all maybe call Pete Michaels and ask him if he will parachute us into our destination.

Posted by: WestIndies Great advice! I will say this: someone let me over today because I had no idea fewer lanes were available approaching James White PKWY traveling east on I-40. I was VERY thankful and even rolled down my window to waive in the rain! This, in my opinion, will be paramount: try to give as much lee-way and caution to those merging in front of you and around you over the next few months. This is new to EVERYONE, even to us who travel downtown every day! The generosity of the man behind me today made ALL the difference - I will certainly return the favor to whomever needs it!
