Positive Pump Prices

I know, crazy right? Positive thoughts aren't the first thing that pop into your head when you see "$3.89" in big bold letters, but with a deep breath, and a long pause, you may be able to have a few. Today we talked with people who said things like "staying home and spending time with family," "helping the environment" and "excercising by riding their bikes or walking."  They may be few and far between, but a silver lining may actually be out there. We talked with an economics professor at UT who says areas like East Tennessee could benefit from high prices. He says local produce could see a jump in sales because it costs to much to ship goods long distances, folks who work for small car companies could see production expand and we could reduce our dependence on foreign petroleum products. See, there's a few out there.

Of course people didn't forget to tell us how they can't spend the weekend on the lake, grocery shopping is more expensive and they're just plain old mad every time they see prices jump again. We're not saying it isn't difficult, it can be. But can't there also be a positive side to everything?

What's the bright side of gas prices for you? Let us know by posting your comments at the top of the page.

See you in the morning,

Allison

Yes is like a wake up call for everyone. Oil companies know our economy depends on oil and they're going to charge whatever they want because we are not drilling and they want more money. The bright side of high gas prices in general is that we need to become energy in depended and build more energy efficient cars, homes with solar panels on their roofs, and create a different way to generate power. We need to keep fighting this gas prices and find a different way to generate power because we can't just pass this energy crises to our children because if we do, their future won't look very bright with a decomposed economy.

I see nothing positive about the high gas prices. I am retired, and depend on Taxi's and bus for transportation. All higher gas prices do is make it more expensive and harder to get around, by the way I am 65 yrs. old.

Posted by: Victor First and foremost, I hope it helps our country realize we need to move, quickly, towards other energy options. I.E.: solar, wind and biofuels. Great to see this story on the website - I am a believer more positives than negatives will come from higher pump prices.

The bright side of gas prices for me is spending more time at home with my family and I get to put more miles on my bicycle. And to make it more fun at home, I bought a sorround to watch movies, it sounds awesome!! i spent 200.00 dollars on the sorround sound so that's 3 and 1/2 tank of gas. so..lets see- After staying home on the weekends and watching movies for a 1 month or 2 then I will start saving money lol
