It's not every day that you get to hang out with a Harlem Globetrotter, so when the opportunity presents itself, you take it. Herbert "Moo Moo" Evans came on East Tennessee This Morning Friday to show off his skills and get everybody ready for the show on January 16. This is Moo Moo's 4th year with the Globetrotters and he's an East Tennessee boy! Born in Millington, near Memphis, he got the nickname "Moo Moo" because his Aunt says he drank so much milk when he was a baby! His Mom used to give her three or four bottles when she watched him. He says his Aunt said "You're going to have to buy this guy a moo moo." The name stuck and he decided to use it as his Globetrotter name. Globetrotters are known for their tricks, so we had Moo Moo show us a few. It's awesome to watch him. He makes it look so easy! Which it's not. It's pretty cool though when he can make you spin a ball on your finger. There's no way I could do it on my own. He did give a pointer: he says to spin it on your nail because it's a smoother surface. Bob apparently has skills too and spun the ball on his finger this morning!
Becoming a Globetrotter takes a lot of work. He says he always has a ball in his hand and practices all the time. Players are required to try out every year and have tricks down pat. There are new players this year so there are lots of new things to see in the show. If you've never been to one, I highly recommend you go. Last year was my first game and it was awesome!
