Don't we all assume when we board a plane that the pilot has the right experience to get us to our destination safely? Well, that might not be the case. Wednesday during the second day of NTSB hearings on the crash of Flight 3407 in Washington DC, investigators are taking a closer look at the quality of education the pilot had. The head of Colgan Air, which operated Flight 3407 for Continental Airlines, says Cpt. Renslow didn't have hands-on training on part of the plane's safety system. Officials with Colgan say the pilots were not paying close attention to the instruments and didn't respond to a stall warning correctly. They're also discussing fatigue as a possible reason for the crash. Transcripts show the pilot and co-pilot talked about their careers and how the co-pilot, Rebecca Shaw, was inexperienced in flying in icy conditions. There are also some pretty scary comments made by the pilots. Obscenities were shouted and a scream was let out just before the plane crashed. There is obviously a lot more information available at CBS.com, you can read up on it and discuss it here. We want to hear what you think. I've heard several people say it makes them afraid to fly. What do you think?
See you in the morning, Allison |
