Check the box score of any NCAA Tournament game and you'll notice all the important numbers.  Field goal percentage.  Turnovers.  Steals.  Blocked shots.  It's all there, with one exception....graduation rates.

The University of Central Florida once again released its report regarding the graduation rates of teams (men and women) participating in March Madness.  It's filled with numbers that won't affect the outcome of any game, but are considered by many to be the most important statistic of them all.

To put it the comparison into basketball terms, the women run the men out of the gym.

60 women's teams, compared to 30 men's teams, graduated at least 60%.
50 women's teams, compared to 22 men's teams, graduated at least 70%.

As for The University of Tennessee, the report shows 100% of the Lady Vols graduate, while 38% of the Vols earn their degree.  (Follow the link above to see the criteria used in the report)

I would love to read your comments regarding these questions.

1 - Is it fair to compare the women's graduation rate to the men's?
2 - Why is there such a disparity?

Fire away.
