My ex brother- in law had "Brutus" that he raised from a pup. As long as he and my sister were at home, Brutus was a head in your lap- pet me- rub my bellie kind of dog. If they weren't, you better not get out of the car. He left teeth marks on my car's hubcaps and front bumper. Cut his lip in the process. Tee Hee. As the saying goes, "Kill 'em all let God sort 'em out". Appoliges to the PB lovers, but this is how I feel.

I own a beautiful pit bull who is so gentle. She loves people and will get onto anyone's lap. Her feelings can get hurt faster than most humans. When I first got her, my husband told me, he said you have never had a pit before. You will have to raise her right. Fortunately, I had a broke foot at the time, so she stayed with me 24/7. If I left the house, she went, grocery shopping, errands or whatever. I raised her the best way possible. With all the love and guidance just like a child. Any animal can be cruel and vicious, it just depends on the owner, not the dog. Why euthanize the dog, it isn't their fault. The owner needs stricter punishment

I own a pit bull, and a lab mix and have 2 kids( 11 months and 4 yrs) Both my kids Climb, jump, ride and stand right on my pitbull. My 11 month old stands on her head to get onto the couch. And my pit bull luna-bin just lays there and looks at me. Doesn't get mad at all. Before you judge this amazing breed, get to know one. I've been bit by a siberian husky in my face, my brother in law got bit by a cocker spainel in the eye, my dads cocker spainiel bit 8 people who came to our house on seperate occaisions... What breed should we be watching?

IT IS ALL ON HOW THE DOG IS RAISED!!!! PEOPLE KEEP ASKING HOW MANY MORE MAULINGS WILL THERE BE UNTIL THE LAW IS PASSED. WELL IF THAT IS THE CASE CAN WE PLEASE RID OF THE BEARS IN THE MOUNTAINS THAT KILL PEOPLE OR THE MOUNTAIN LIONS IN CALIFORNIA THAT ATTACK PEOPLE TOO. I THINK IT HAS JUST BECOME A BIG DEAL SINCE THAT IS ALL THE MEDIA REPORTS ON IS "PIT BULL" ATTACKS BUT WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER BREEDS OF DOGS AND ANIMALS THAT KILL PEOPLE AS WELL?!?!?!?

Posted by: chris Location: thunder bay
yes i know pit bulls can be vicious, i've seen my freind being attacked by one so have i, but i found out the other day that the pit bulls that attacked us were very badly abused, my dad and i already known a pit bull but when my dad found out about the pit bull getting abused he went to the persons house ans stole the dog so it wouldn't get abused any more and ever since that day me and the pit bulls have been freindly, nice, cute and its never attacked any ever since becasue when took it in and loved it not abused it. and until this day the pit bull is scared of lound noises and her tail is still bent into a L shape

Posted by: bl please ban ignorant people not dogs... all pit bulls are not vicious. i own a pitbull and a pomeranian you would be more likely to get bitten by the pom.

For those of you that say they should all be killed and banned, please educate yourself on the breed. www.forpitssake.com

I think the state should ban them altogether! I just watched my neighbors pitbulls mangle and KILL an elderly mans schnauzer in MY yard today. The male wasn't captured because he ran into the woods. He was the one that did the most damage ripping it's neck apart. The dog showed it's face again tonight. It was chasing another animal down my street. The onwer doesn't mistreat the dogs. They are just PITBULLS!! A vicious breed.

its not the pitbulls fault its the people that get them and fight them i think you should have to be checked out before you are able to own one!!!So stop blaming the breed!!!!!!!!

Posted by: evelina i have a neighbor and he is in the "dog business" those creatures get out and it scares me there like snakes. i think you should take responsibility for your animals . and in a way their like any other heartbeat they a snap at you sooner or later. i say that were over populated with animals and as bob barker says have them fixed. the way the economy is looking were not going to be able to feed them .

I think they should pass a law that states, If any dog bites a human iy should be killed and make all the dogs read and understand it.

Posted by: Debbie Location: Harrogate
I think all animals that have been altered by humans should be done away with,if its not an orginal made by God it should be euthanized.

There are no bad dogs.. only bad people.

Pit Bulls can be very loving animals. They should have responsible owners as with all animals. I have heard all this talk about pit bulls being banned and that is ridiculous!!! Are they going to want to ban chows and doberman pinchers? What about labs and st bernards? They are large breed and they have attacked people. I even saw a pomeranian attack a grown man so are they going to be banned too?

Pit bulls are not naturally human aggressive but yes they are naturally animal aggressive. But if they are trained right they know that they can't just attack another animal for no reason. My wife and I have 3 pit bulls and they have never bitten anyone or killed anything. My 6 year old little sister and my 4 year old baby nephew along with the neighbor hood kids play with our dogs and are pretty rough with them. And they have never bitten anyone. So not all pit bulls will bite.My dogs are treated like members of the family and get nothing but love and respect. When i play with them I play rough. Just like most men do with their larger dogs. And what do you know,I have never been attacked by my dogs. I know probably 200 people that have and breed pit bulls and have never had any problems out of their dogs. And they all have small children as well. Any breed can be taught to attack and be mean. IT REALLY IS HOW THEY ARE RAISED.

To all you people that say no other dog but pitbulls attack try going online and typing labrador dog attacks or collie and see what comes up. You people like to blame pitbulls for everything but if they are raised to be aggressive or not socially trained attacks can happen. I'm not saying a good dog can't go bad but it is not just the pitbull breed. Do some investigation before you try to ban the world of all pitbulls.

At the Humane Society we see all kinds of Big Dog which have been mistreated and abused, but they are still very kind animals because they are not a PitBulls. It is just a documented fact.

To all you people who say it is the owner and not the people. I ask you then, WHY is it always a PITBULL that you hear killing or injuring people???? Pitbulls have a bad attitude when they are born. They have been crossbred and it messes up their brain or something. You don't hear about a mean standard size poodle, Great Dane, Labridor Retriever, Saint Bernard etc. etc. (Big Dogs) killing anyone or any other breed of dog typically. Lets get Real and admit that Pitbulls are a problem. I too am a big animal lover and have served on the board of the Humane Society for years. They just have more of a chance of a bad temperment

The fact that the female had pups could shed some light on why this tragedy happened in the first place. It's unfortunate the pups paid the ultimate price for having a less than acceptable owner.

I think that pit bulls have been given a bad rap because of stupid inhumain people. I have 3 of my own and they are big babies. It's all in how you raise them. Any dog raised wrong can be dangerous. Those puppies should not have been euthanized. They didn't do any thing wrong!

Posted by: kris The dog owner should never be allowed to own any dogs or animals period. The state needs to require this and enforce. He has proven that he is irresponsible owner now I feel the authorities should enforce strict rules preventing him to EVER own a dog again. I feel some repercussion's should come his way after this tragedy. He was completely at fault and I feel he had other reasons for having them. A breed should not suffer for poor taste of owners case and point Mike Vicks. A very sad ending for all involved again he should not be allowed to ever own a dog again.

I agree with Vickie in Newport. I have a female pit and she loves people. If Debbie were to meet my dog, her opinion would be changed. This breed is possesive, protective, but also very loving. They can be irritable at times but so can many people. Maybe we should enact laws banning certain types of people! As for euthanizing the puppies, that just made me sick to think innocent puppies didn't even have a chance to find a loving family. More education is needed for people who want to adopt this breed and obedience training should be required for all owners.

I think that pit bulls should be very illegal in this country. I am a very fortunate parent of a little girl that was charged by a pit and luckily she raised her arm or she would have been dead at this point. All she was doing, was playing with a yo-yo and the neighbors dog came after her. Believe it or not, but that dog was raised with her and the neighbors kids from a pup. I think that the dogs being EUTHANIZED was the best thing that could have been done for the community as a whole. I feel bad for Jennifer's family and pray that GOD give them peace of mind, even though nothing can bring her back. My condolences to them.

I agree with Vickie, the dogs are not the problem. The problem is with the owners. Many people buy pit bulls for a watch dog, or other security reasons. They mistreat these dogs and train them to attack, yet months later they wonder why their dog is becoming so violent! My sister owns a pit bull and she's a sweetheart. She would never hurt a fly. She also is treated properly and she was never taught how to fight or attack. It does not take a genius to realize that the environment a living creature is raised in will be reflected in its behavior. In addition, I personally find it hard to believe that three 5 month old puppies aided in the killing of this woman. So why were they put down? It appears no one has an answer except that man seems more eager to kill than the dogs do.

I think that it is absolutely absurd that these animals continuously get blamed for what is clearly the owners fault. There is nothing "in" this breed that causes them to be any more dangerous than any other animal. A animal is the way it is due to its upbringing just like a child. I owned a pit from the time he was born til he died 11 years later and I would own another one in a heartbeat. He was extremely smart and was easily trained. He knew right from wrong and to stay away from the cat because she let him know right when we brought him home who was the boss! I have no doubt that he would have protected any of us if the occasion called for it. But isn't that what we want out of our canine family members? It all lies with the upbringing and the intent of use for these wonderful animals. You want them for a pet, you get a pet. If you are an idiot and train them to fight till death then you should be ready to accept the consequences. Anyone can train anything to kill.

I feel like it was the right thing to do for the adult dog but if the puppies could have been put in GOOD home, they should have been given a chance. The adult dog killed a small dog, could have just as well been a child or even an adult. The owner should be fined as well & pay for all damages. Dogs should be taken care of the proper way. After all, they aren't human!

i think pit bulls should be illegal to own in this country how many more maulings are we gonna see before a law is passed!!!

Pit Bulls are constantly given a bad rap I for one have one and she is the most loving dog I know. People are the problem not the dog! They are given gunpowder and trained to do these things. People think it is great fun to see these beautiful and powerful animals mistreated and dont fully understand them. If you will recall the Little' rascals Pit Bull was Petey and he was a loyal companion!During the 70's The Pit Bull expolded in popularity, and unfortunately, notoriety. Then one day it seemedfew in America knew what a Pit Bull was, and the next day, the entire nation thought it to be the most dangerous dog in the world. Suddenly the breed went from being a dog Americans remembered fondly to a dog everyone thought we would all be better off without. No one is quite sure why this happened. It seems the more negitive talk there is about how dangerous Pit Bulls can be the more irresponsible people want them! The more irresponsible owners there are the more trouble the breed seems to get.
