Do you think Tennessee should follow New Jersey's lead and abolish the death penalty?

Posted by: rebecca Location: maryville After losing a family member to a brutal murder last month, I absolutly think that we should keep and persue the death penalty. The man that brutally stabbed and then burned his body should get the death penatly. If we used the death penalty on those people that take the life of someone then maybe the wouldnt let a killer get out for good behavior so that he could only kill again. Posted by: Juanita Location: Levittown Pa The crime rate in Jersey was bad enough now it will go up even more. Jersey is in a budget mess now that will get worse too, or maybe they can parole them to another state. How about TEXAS, they are not afraid to use the death penalty. Posted by: willy Location: knoxville The only problem eith the death penalty is it's not used enough.Prison is not a punishment for most of these people. They get drugs, alcohol and most anything that they get on the streets. Most of them dont care or feel remorse about ehat they have done.Their stock goes up in prison for murder. So they may not be as happy as they were on the street but they seem to be content knowing that they will get to continue living unlike their victoms. And all the years that they LIVE in prison are at OUR expense. If you knew that "if i kill someone i AM going to be exicuted in a short amount of time"NOT 20YEARS then i might think twice.Tennessee needs to get on the same page as texas. Posted by: Nicole Location: Crossville the death sentence should stay and we should act on it. I f you were a family member of someone who was a victim your opinion might change. I resently lost a cousin due to a stabbing. She didn't deserve to die so it is only fair that her assailant not continue to live either. I am origionaly from Texas so maybe that is why I feel so strongly. The problem with the death sentence is that the sentence isn't carried out quickly enough. Why are we supporting lives that don't deserve to live, and not supporting those that have died? As for God... we are supposed to obey the laws of the land or suffer the consequences, and if someone that is innocent is put to death, the lord already knows they are innocent. Posted by: hollywood Location: tazewell eye for an eye. one eye at a time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Posted by: happy89 Location: Knoxville why should my hard working money help this criminals live in prison, watch tv, eat, have shelter, work out, read, ect...
They are sick and nothing can be done to change their minds or help this people.
Death Penalty 100% Posted by: george Location: morristown thats whats wrong today they have no life you go to jail you got it made if they would do the death sentence and start dropping the hammer on these cull's that murder and rape people and start bedding them in the ground instead of prison crime rates would go down alot and our taxes would drop . if your family member was hurt like willie was in morristown you would want them to fry to . crime rates would drop. if someone hurt my kids i could drop the hammer on them in a second Posted by: Jessica Location: New Market Evelina said, "if you kill someone (you're) evil." Why is it okay then for the government to kill? I think if killing is EVER wrong, it is always wrong. Posted by: evelina we all have opinions. but clearly if you kill someone your evil. " e v i l " why should they be able to live and remember what they have done. to evil people its a brag. and we as tax payers are helping with payment of his accomodations. we need to use our tax dollars for people that cant help themselves in place of ? Posted by: evelina i cant think of one good reason we should abolish the death sentence. our jails are over crowded anyway. and its no different than euthanizing a animal thats killed. eye for a eye. Posted by: Marilyn Hagemann AN EYE FOR AN EYE & DO ONTO OTHERS AS YOU WANT DONE ONTO YOU. You kill someone we the people kill you Posted by: shelley Location: knoxville my uncle was murdered for his watch and a few dollars. I rest easy knowing that this man is in jail and will wake up everyday behind bars, with no family to surround him, no children to hold during the holidays. He will be in enough turmoil when he leaves the earth, while he is here, I want him to wake up knowing he will never be free from what he did to my father by taking his brothers life. If he was to be given the death penalty, I feel that would be the easy way out. Let him rot in prison. Posted by: DEBBIE Location: WORK I THINK WE SHOULD DO TO PEOPLE WHAT THEY DO TO THERE VICTIMS, IF THEY KILL SOMEONE THEY SHOULD BE KILLED THE EXACT SAME WAY, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE TORTURE SOMEONE, ESPECIALLY WHEN ITS A CHILD, MAYBE CRIME RATE WOULD GO DOWN, THE CUT YOUR HAND OFF IN OTHER COUNTRIES FOR STEALING AND THEY STILL HANG PEOPLE FOR KILLINGS IN OTHER COUNTRY AND THEIR CRIME RATES ARE LOW, I THINK WE SHOULD GO TO STUFF LIKE THAT TO, IT DOES SAY IN THE BIBLE AN EYE FOR AN EYE Posted by: john Location: mascot, tn I think we should keep the death penality Posted by: Bobbie Location: Tazewell, TN I think we should abolish the death penalty in TN. By placing someone one death row and executing them, it allows for them to take the easy way out. It is in my opinion that the offender should have to remain in prison for hte remainder of their natural life. By doing this, they would be forced to reflect on each and every day what they had done to deserve the punishment they are recieving. Murdering these criminals is not the answer. Posted by: Cindy I DO NOT think we should abolish the death penalty in TN! When a person commits a crime, I feel like all rights should be taken away. If they have murdered someone and/or tortured them and they get the death penalty, it should not matter if it is “inhumane”! What about the person they killed, were their feelings spared? I don’t think so. This is one of the things that is wrong with our country today, people get away with anything. Put away in prisons for a while then to be freed, only to break the law again. God is our only Judge and jury and in the end, He alone will take care of everyone. Even if the criminals do not get the death penalty, eventually, unless they repent, they will go to Hell! Posted by: Jeff Gann Location: New Market Tennessee Taking a life deserves the same punishment, not 3 meals a day paid for by taxpayers, and an education and medical benefits as a punishment. No death penalty in Tennessee is truly a slap in the face. Posted by: Larry Location: LaFollette Before Tennessee even considers following suit with New Jersey, wait & see their crime rate go up and prison over crowding.
