Do you feel Congress should do more to drive down the price of oil?
Congressman Jimmy Duncan, Jr. (R-TN) announced Friday that he will co-sponsor legislation to allow companies to drill for oil domestically in places like the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and deep off the coast of Florida.

Vote for a clean slate in Knox County Government. Before you vote on August 7th... www.rememberblackwednesday.com

Well, I know the government is not going to start drilling for oil and the only way I can fight back against oil and gas prices is to ride by bicycle to the store and ride anywhere I can; even if people think I'm weird.

on youtube.com look up Lyndsey Williams(energy the non crises) I called Congressman Duncans office on this issue more should do the same , watch and be educated.

knoxville has a lack of side walks; specially on kingston pike and chapman hwy. I can't ride my bicycle unless I'm asking to get hit by a car. I request more side walks and bicycle lanes on kingston pike, and chapman hwy. Maryville needs side walks too. Riding bikes is a good way to lose weight!

Best idea that has ever come out. Thanks Jimmy Duncan for thinking about the people instead of the wild life. I love animals but lets get real. Lets let the other countries drown in their oil etc.

Remember the gas lines in the 70s and how the oil companies claimed we were running out of oil? As soon as they got what they wanted the oil barons turned the spigots back on. Now they are running up the price using "speculation" as their excuse. All we need to do is to nationalize the oil industry and these thieves will be out of business. We can then control prices ourselves until we can reduce demand by developing efficient public transportation and cities on the European model to replace our urban sprawl and endless highways. We are spoiled. We need to grow up and learn to live reasonably. Of course, if a corrupt supreme court and a corrupt Florida Election Commission hadn't given Bush and Cheney their sinecures, we wouldn't be in Iraq with 4,000 dead Americans, countless dead Iraqis and a world economy on the virge of collapse. It isn't my fault. I always vote Democratic. Let the people rule!

Drilling for oil in the US is a good Idea, however I dont believe it's a fix, Focus on the fix, are the car manufactures doing enough to offer us alternate fuel vehicles? Yes you can drill for fuel in the States, but that's only temporary too. What happens when that fuel runs out? Then who do we blame? Come on America.. Gas powered cars are a thing of the past, Give us a car that's affordable to drive that doesn't use Gas. Put those old gas drinkers in the garage for your children to show off when they get old, Maybe there might be enough gas left over so they can take them for a ride. Americans are leaders, Lets show the "record profit" Gss makers that we can beat them. I'm buying a bike, so I can ride to work and enjoy the morning ride. Put more Bike trails in. Drill in Amrica, but dont belive for a minute it's a long term fix. God bless

i believe that our president & other people in the government want to make money off the gas because they all have stock in the oil an gas, our country has more gas than we need to operate for at least 20 years, the're funding a war that should have never happened that's where they're sending the money over in iraq, they should be paying the united states to be there not the other way around, our gas should be at least $1.85 a gallon but our penny pinching government would rather give it to a war that is like the vietnam war something that should have never happened, god bless us all an my god make a way for his people to survive,

Absolutely! Why has it taken so long to address this "real" problem. Thanks to Jimmy Duncan for having enough backbone to bring this to the public and to congress. This is not a new problem, just one that we have avoided....someone needs to also look into the "oil speculators" and their role in this dilemna. This not only hurts Americans on low or fixed incomes, but all of us. We should spend more of our time and money focusing on our country, charity begins at home. Shame on President Bush.

Why should we destroy a wildlife refuge forever for a temporary fix to our oil problem? And we are talking a TEMPORARY fix. This would be treating the symptoms, not the problem. Walk more, drive less. Hey! West Knoxville! Build some sidewalks and get out of your Hummers and Suburbans every once in awhile. Then maybe you could get healthy without spending so much money on tasteless crap like weight watchers and YMCA memberships that make you feel guilty because you don't use them enough. We also have a great public transit system, and the more people who ride KAT, the more routes they can develop, and the better it gets.

The Alasaka pipe line has been envirmental friendly for years. ANWR, if handled properly, could also. Opening up ANWR should have been done years ago! I hope congress will do what is right and get the ball rolling toward a more stable America. Go Congressman Duncan!!!

I have heard through several people that the possibility of drilling on or in the USA will not help because the oil/gas would have to be sold on the open market therefore would not be of any benefit to us here. Is this true?

Posted by: Joseph Location: Maryville, TN
Yes, it is time that the USA imports NO OIL. Technological developments now will allow for more strategic drilling and to be honest, how long we will worry about the fish and the trees to the detriment of humans suffering economically?
