The Power Of 10 Has Pulled Me In!!

Hey Friends,

I try not to get too addicted to many television shows because if I did then all I would do is watch TV!! I have two "regular" shows that I watch .. well used to watch .. the writers strike has now left them all in re-runs!!  Then I have a couple of seasonal shows I try to tune into. Well, one seasonal show and YES I'm talking about American Idol ... and YES I secretly want to be a contestant  :)

Well, now I have a MUST watch ...The Power of 10 with Drew Carey ... I'm addicted!!!!  Have you seen it?  I think I like it so much because you can get so involved at home.  I know you can do that with other shows but this one I think is especially great!  If I weren't disqualified then I would totally want to be a contestant! My husband and I make one heck of a team answering those questions and I totally think we could win the 10 million dollar prize!!!

Let's have some fun.  I think we should have our OWN version of The Power of 10 here on my blog!  So send me a blog response with what your guess would have been to some, or even all, of the questions! Feel free to just write comments about the question if you like because I'm including what the answer ended up being from the show!    I may leave my comments on one here and there and tell you what my "guess" was!  I've inserted some pics .. so sorry if it's long!

Question One:
What percentage of married Americans said if their marriage was in trouble, they'd be wiling to go into couples therapy to try and save it?  (The answer on the show was 82%)

*** I ABSOLUTELY BELIEVE IN MARRIAGE COUNSELING. I THINK IT'S WORTH A SHOT ANYWAY. NOW KEEP IN MIND I WAS A PSYCHOLOGY MAJOR IN COLLEGE, BUT ASIDE FROM THAT I THINK IT'S THE RIGHT THING TO DO. I BELIEVE THAT (IN MOST CASES) YOU SHOULD MAKE EVERY ATTEMPT TO MAKE YOUR MARRIAGE WORK BEFORE YOU CALL IT QUITS. I THINK IF YOU DON'T THEN YOU WOULD POSSIBLY HAVE REGRETS. FOR EVERY SITUATION THERE IS AN EXCEPTION BUT FOR THE MOST PART I THINK THAT ANYTHING TO AVOID A DIVORCE IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO.  I LOVE MY HUSBAND AND WOULD CERTAINLY DO WHATEVER I NEEDED TO SAVE OUR MARRIAGE IF THAT WAS NEEDED. BY THE WAY ... I GUESSED THE ANSWER WOULD BE IN THE UPPER 70'S TO LOW 80'S **

Question Two:
What percentage of Americans say when they buy wine, it usually comes in a box?  (The answer on the show was only 10% )

** I DON'T HAVE MUCH OF A COMMENT FOR THIS ONE EXCEPT I LAUGHED PRETTY HARD AT THE QUESTION.  I WAS RIGHT ON WITH MY ANSWER ... I GUESSED ABOUT 13%**

Question Three:
What percentage of Americans have wished they were taller? (The answer on the show was 38%)

** NOW LET'S BUST A MYTH HERE. ALOT OF PEOPLE THINK I'M TALL. NOT SURE WHY? I GUESS IT'S BECAUSE BOB AND I APPEAR TO BE THE SAME HEIGHT ON SET, BUT ACTUALLY I'M ONLY ABOUT 5'3''!! SO I WISH I HAD A DOLLAR FOR EVERY TIME I WISHED I WAS TALLER .. BOY WOULD I BE RICH! I GUESS I ASSUMED THAT MOST PEOPLE THING THAT, WHICH YOU CAN'T DO WITH THIS SHOW SINCE YOU HAVE TO THINK NOT JUST LIKE YOURSELF.  STILL I FIGURED THAT MOST PEOPLE WERE AVERAGE HEIGHT OR SHORTER ... SO I GUESSED AT LEAST THE 50'S WOULD BE A SAFE RANGE.  OOOOPS!

Question Four:
What percentage of Americans have pretended to be talking on a cell phone when there was no on on the other end? (The answer on the show was 23%)

** NO I BELIEVE PEOPLE JUST AREN'T ADMITTING TO THIS ONE!!  HA HA.  I MUST ADMIT I HAVE DONE IT. BUT MY REASON IS A GOOD ONE.  NOW IF YOU ARE ONE OF THESE GUYS THAT DO THIS ... STOP ... LADIES HATE IT! I ALWAYS FEEL REALLY UNCOMFORTABLE WHEN I'M DRIVING AND PULL UP NEXT TO A GROUP OF GUYS IN A CAR AND THEY ARE ALL STARING AND LAUGHING AND MAKING COMMENTS.  I DON'T MIND A SMILE OR A WAVE .. I WILL SMILE AND WAVE BACK .. BUT THE LATTER IS JUST DISRESPECTFUL AND IT MAKES ME FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE .. SO I HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO PULL MY CELL UP TO MY EAR ON THE SIDE THEY ARE ON SO I CAN AVOID SEEING THEM OUT OF MY PERIPHERAL VISION!   I GUESSED IT WOULD BE LOW. MY GUESS WAS IN THE 20 TO 40 RANGE.

Question Five:
What percentage of American say that the word "Y'all" is part of their regular vocabulary? (The answer on the show was 31%)

** I THINK PEOPLE JUST FIBBED HERE.  CAUSE EVEN NORTHERNERS SAY Y'ALL!  I HAVE TO ADMIT I DON'T REALLY SAY IT THAT OFTEN, BUT I DO FROM TIME TO TIME AND IT'S CERTAINLY PART OF MY DAILY VOCABULARY  SINCE I HEAR PEOPLE SAY IT EVERYDAY **

Question Six:
What percentage of Americans said if they suspected their partner was cheating, they would hire a P.I. to follow them? (The answer on the show was a low 16%)

**HMMM, I WONDER HOW MANY OF THOSE POLLED ARE TELLING THE TRUTH? I REALLY WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU ALL ON THIS ONE. I CAN'T SAY THAT I WOULD NEVER DO THAT. I THINK IT DEPENDS ON THE SITUATION. USUALLY A CHEATER WILL MESS UP AND SOMEHOW TELL ON THEMSELVES. I SAID IT WOULD BE MUCH HIGHER .. I SAID BETWEEN 40 AND 60%. BUT rREALLY FORGET A PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR,  DID YOU KNOW I CAN SHOOT A GUN, THAT'S ALL I NEED, HAHA, I'M KIDDING PEOPLE**

Question Seven:
What percentage of American women said if they were working mothers they would feel guilty not being at home with their children?  (The answer on the show was 62%)

**WOW, WHAT A TOUGH ONE! I THINK THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO WORK BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN THEY DON'T FEEL GUILTY. THEN I THINK YOU HAVE THE PEOPLE WHO HAD WORKING MOMS AND IT WAS JUST THE "NORM" SO THEY DON'T FEEL GUILTY. MAYBE BECAUSE THEY GET TO STAY WITH THEIR GRANDMOTHER OR MAYBE EVEN DAD STAYS HOME. THEN YOU HAVE TO FACTOR IN STAY AT HOME MOMS WOULD WOULD MOST LIKELY ANSWER YES TO THIS.  MY MOM WORKED WHILE I WAS GROWING UP AND SHE HAS NO REASON TO FEEL GUILTY ABOUT THAT .. LOOK HOW WELL I TURNED OUT .. HAHA!  NO SERIOUSLY, HER GOING TO WORK ALLOWED ME TO BE BABYSAT BY MY GRANDMOTHER AND IN TURN SHE WAS MY BEST FRIEND AND I WAS BLESSED TO HAVE THAT RELATIONSHIP IN MY LIFE.   BUT I'M NOT A MOM SO I COULDN'T REALLY ANSWER THIS QUESTION AND IF I HAD TO GUESS I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THAT EVEN IF IT DIDN'T AFFECT THE OUTCOME OF WHAT I DID, I WOULD AT LEAST FROM TIME TO TIME FEEL GUILTY .. SO I THOUGHT THE  NUMBER WOULD BE HIGH. I WAS THINKING AROUND 70%.

Question Eight:
What percentage of Americans have totaled their parents car? (The answer on the show was only 6% )

** I THOUGHT THIS ONE WOULD BE REALLY REALLY LOW. IF THEY HAD ASKED WHAT PERCENTAGE HAD TOTALED A CAR IN GENERAL I WOULD SAY IT WOULD BE SUPER HIGH. BUT SINCE THEY DID NARROW IT TO PARENTS CAR, I GUESSED AROUND 10 PERCENT.  I WILL SHARE WITH YOU THIS PICTURE. THIS IS THE CAR I TOTALED IN HIGH SCHOOL ... IT WAS MINE THOUGH.  LET ME ADD, IT WAS A NO FAULT ACCIDENT AND I PRAISE GOD EVERYDAY THAT I AM ALIVE! I HAVE A SCAR OR TWO ON MY LEG AND HIP THAT I HATED (STILL DO) BUT WHEN I LOOK AT THEM I KNOW IT COULD HAVE BEEN SO MUCH WORSE AND THEY REMIND ME HOW GRATEFUL I AM FOR LIFE. **

Question Nine:
I'm going to end on an odd number .. nine .. and it's a question that wasn't on the show but was on the PROMO for the show?? I was so sad!! The question was something like this ..... "What percentage of Americans believe that heaven accepts domesticated animals".
Well I want to know what you all have to say about this one.  But I believe the answer is ... YES, YES, YES!!  I had a cat named Chloe die of a  disease called FIP (feline infectious peritonitis).  I had someone tell me the story about the Rainbow Bridge.  Read it ... I believe it :)  I think that if my babies go before me they will be playing around the gates of Heaven and join me when I go in :)  Even if you don't REALLY believe it ... it's certainly a pleasant thought, huh? Cause if your like me I couldn't imagine life without them!!

Alright .. get busy responding with what you thought  AMERICA said and then tell me your thoughts on the issue if you want!

Have a super day :)
Stacy

couples therapy: I agree as long as we both want to work it out and not cheat! Wished I was taller: YES! I'm only a 5-6 guy. No basketball for me, but I can sure be quick until my fuel runs out. Heaven accepts domesticated animals: Of course, if not, it would not be called "Heaven" =)

Hi Doug, Yeah, I said "I can't say I would never do that" .. and by "do that" .. I meant hire a PI. It's one of those things that you just can't say FOR SURE you wouldn't do. Thanks for clearning that up :)

Stacy,Just one question? On a cheating husband or wife, you said you were not sure you could ever do that. I suppose you were speaking of hiring a detective to check, rather than cheating?

I'm single, so I am not sure what to make of marriage counseling at this point. It would be like asking for help in kicking your nicotine habit when you have never smoked a day in your life (although I admit a fondness for the smell of cigars). I have never bought wine. I wish I was taller. I am 5'9", but would like to be around 6'. You do look taller on camera. The camera not only adds ten pounds, it adds three inches too. I have never pretended to be talking on my cell phone. "Y'all" comes out of my mouth every once in a while. I don't need to hire a PI to do what I can do myself. I'm a guy with no children, so that is all I can say. I have been sideswiped, rear-ended twice and that 1984 Volvo still kept running. It even managed to go about 50 additional miles after having a big construction spike in it. The car was eventually transferred to me after I got out of college ten years ago and drove it until 2001. I think all animals go to heaven, not just dogs.
