Hey Friends: I did a news story today to see if the number of students attending private schools is declining due to the recession. Middle and upper class families are also getting laid off from work and feeling the financial pinch. So are these parents having to move their children to public schools? How about you? Have you tightened your budget and your child once in private school will now go to public school? Or are you willing to cut other corners to keep them there? What about those of you that have children in public schools? What are your thoughts? Have a great day :) |

Our family is very pro public school. I agree with the poster above. It's all about parent involvement and how well the kids do. I ask my kid every night if they have homework and when the next test is. They both have agendas but I prefer to ask them individually. I then help them plan their study time so that they are ready for whatever the next day has in store. I feel private schools aren't necessarily better than public. They may even be more sheltered and once the kids leave those private environments they are a bit in shock at what the real world is like. I have known many parents that pulled their kids out of private schools for various reasons. All of them say that there kids weren't any further ahead than the public school kids. I've actually heard the opposite. The public schools were more advanced than the private schools. My kids go to a school that kids from all over the world go to and they have friends from literally all over the world. Its been a great environment. There were too many families living beyond their means and now they have to re-evaluate their situations. Posted by: Amelia I think going to a private school is a luxury, not a necessity. If you have the extra income, great...but it's not the public schools that keep you from getting an education...it's all about the student's willpower to work. Does that parent teach their child to study, encourage them? Because the school shouldn't be responsible for it. Parents do have a choice of where to send their kids to school. It's called moving.
