Today: Breezy! Increasing clouds through the day. Highs close to 60. Wind gusts will kick up to 20-25 MPH at times. Sunset: 5:54 Tonight: 50% chance of rain showers with a low of 39. Saturday: Partly sunny, slight chance of morning rain, and a high of 46. Sunday: Clouds and sun and 44. Monday: Sunny and dry with highs in the mid-40s. We're going to enjoy temperatures around 60 degrees today as breezes pick up. Our breezes are not quite as critical of an issue though as the breezes in Hawley, Texas, today. Hawley is west of Dallas and about 30-minutes due north of Abilene, and the breezes there coupled with dry conditions and temps right at 80 are not doing wildfire firefighters any favors. HAWLEY, Texas (AP) -- Firefighters are battling a wildfire in western Texas that has destroyed seven homes and forced an unknown number of residents to evacuate. Nick Harrison of the Texas Forest Service says the fire broke out Thursday near Abilene, about 175 miles west of Dallas. It grew to 2,000 acres and was only about 20 percent contained by late Thursday. Harrison says crews used bulldozers to dig up the ground and cut down grass and brush that helped fuel the fire. The cause of the blaze is not known. No injuries have been reported. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
