MONROE COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) – A Madisonville boy was arrested Monday for allegedly trying to kill his mother.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said they learned of the incident when someone called 911 to report an assault at a home on Cherokee Circle. When they arrived at the house they found a woman suffering from stab wounds to her chest and arm. She had also been forced to ingest toxic substances and prescription medication.

Paramedics took the woman to the hospital and investigators interviewed her son. He was later arrested for attempted first degree murder and booked into the Blount County Detention Center. He was being held there Monday night pending a hearing.
