KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) – A Blount County man was killed Wednesday morning after losing control of his car in North Knox County.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office said it happened around 9:30 a.m. when Jason McKinley, 33 of Louisville was speeding down Tazewell Pike. He was apparently rounding a curve near McKinnon Ridge Lane when he lost control of his car on the wet pavement and crossed the center line into oncoming traffic.

McKinley did not regain control of his car in time and slammed head on into a Lincoln Town Car driven by Caleb Lakin of Corryton.

Deputies said McKinley was rushed to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Lakin suffered non-life threatening injuries, but was still treated at the hospital.

According to the sheriff’s office, McKinley’s license was revoked at the time of the wreck because of a DUI.

The accident was still under investigation Wednesday evening.
