MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Blount County police departments are accepting donations for an Alcoa police officer and his family after a Sunday fire leaves them without a home.
Blount County fire investigators say when they arrived at the home on Troy Avenue in Maryville around 2, heavy smoke and flame were coming from the house.
The officer's wife was home at the time, but was able to get out safely.
Three of the family's four cats are also safe, but unfortunately a kitten died in the fire.
The home suffered significant damage.
The fire does not appear to be suspicious, but the cause remains under investigation.
