We have four restaurants that failed their inspections and two received low scores this week from the Knox County Health Department in our look behind the kitchen door.

Little Caesar's Pizza, 4322 Broadway, score: 61
chicken wings, ham, pepperoni and 34 pizza's was stored at potentially hazardous temperature. 356 pounds of pepperoni, chicken wings, sausage, beef, ham and cheese had to be thrown out thrown out, because the coolers were not holding the product at the correct temperature. The floors and equipment were dirty.

Wendy's, 331 Cedar Bluff, score: 64
An employee picked garbage off floor and then handled buns without washing their hands. There were flies in the kitchen, and medicine out of the bottle on the prep table. Wastewater was leaking onto the floor, and the equipment was dirty.

O'Charley's, 11036 Parkside, score: 67
An employee touched their face and continued prepping food without washing hands. Another employee handled raw chicken and then buttermilk without washing their hands. China and cups were stored next to toxic chemicals, wastewater was leaking onto the floor, and the equipment was dirty.

Lotus Garden, 460 Cedar Bluff, score: 69
Shrimp and beef was store at potentially hazardous temperature, so five pounds of wontons were thrown out. Ice was dripping into food in the walk in cooler, and wastewater was leaking onto the floor.

Mandarin House, 811 Gleason, score: 70
Beef, chicken, crab, and spring rolls kept at potentially hazardous temperatures, so three and a half pounds were thrown out. Raw chicken was not properly stored and red meat was thawing at room temperature. The inspector noted that overall much improved in housekeeping and awareness of hand-washing.

Subway, Knoxville Center, score: 70
Food was thawing in the hand sink. There were cigarette ashes and a smoke odor in the facility, and toxic chemicals were not stored properly.

re: wearing plastic gloves during food prep does not always ensure cleanliness. Sometimes employees are not diligent in changing gloves. (smoking, bathroom trips etc.)

Pretty sad when Mandarin House only gets up to a 70 after the lowest score in history. It should have been 90 , AND the local government should close down any place with less than 70
