We do not have any failing restaurants, but two did receive low scores this week from the Knox County Health Department, in our look Behind the Kitchen Door.
Wendy's, 6201 Asheville Highway, score: 71
Employee threw away trash, pushed down into container then continued frying chicken without washing their hands. Inspector recommended treatment for gnats and flies. There was mildew inside the ice machine, cleaner stored next to condiments, buns stored on the floor, and the equipment was dirty.
Kanpai of Tokyo, 1645 Downtown West Boulevard, score: 73
A basin in the dining room was used as ice bin, there was no chlorine in the dish machine, no splash shield at the sushi hand sink, cloth towels covering meat and other foods, and the ice maker and other equipment were dirty.
Now for the good news, we have three restaurants that scored ninety and above this week.
By the Tracks Bistro, 5200 Kingston Pike, score: 90
Pauline's, 1518 University Avenue, score: 93
Cupcakery, 5508 Kingston Pike, score: 97
