KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- We have two restaurants that failed and two that received a low score this week from the Knox County Health Department in our look Behind the Kitchen Door.
Gus's Restaurant. 37 Market Square, score: 66
- Can of refried beans with a damaged top seal thrown out.
- Toxic chemicals stored with glasses and food.
- Shelves and equipment were dirty.
- Ice cream containers were being used to store food, and they were not labeled.
Sonic, 4470 Western Avenue, score: 69
- Moldy lemons
- Ink cartridge stored on ice machine above the door
- Ice machine bin dirty
- Cook line equipment, hot-dog roller, fryers and hood dirty
La Costa, 31 Market Square, score: 71
- Two-door reach in cooler at 55 degrees, unit must be capable of maintaining potentially hazardous food at 41 degrees or below.
- Orange cleaner not labeled, other toxic chemicals not stored properly
- Floor dirty
Mike's Deli, 1045 Maryville Pike, score: 71
- Chicken and dumplings at potentially hazardous temperature
- Toxic chemicals stored next to food
- Foil covering shelves
- Dispensers dirty
Now for the good news, we have 12 restaurants that scored 90 or above.
Le Parigo, 416 Clinch Avenue, and Higher Grounds, 625 Gay Street, both scored 90.
Dara's Garden, 906 Callahan Drive, scored 91.
Eat-n-Run, 906 Callahan Drive, and La Veracruzana, 10556 Yarnell Road, both scored 92.
Smoky Mountain VFW, 734 N. Fourth Avenue; McDonald's, 409 Emory Road; Sakkio, 7600 Kingston Pike; Five Guys, Burgers and Fries, 7521 Barnett Way; and Wendy's, 6650 Clinton Highway all scored 93.
Our Place, 4710 Old Broadway, and Dave's Dog House #3, 8308 Tidewater, both scored 98.
