Expensive, lengthy cleanup expected for NC rock slide

The stretch of I-40 along the Tennessee and North Carolina line is a frequent spot for rock slides. But rarely of this severity. North Carolina Department of transportation officials say the spill is so massive - at estimates of 50 feet tall in some places - it could take months to clear.

Rock slide in NC shuts down interstate, cleanup could take weeks

A rock slide on I-40 eastbound just inside North Carolina near Cocke County has blocked all lanes in both directions near the Tennessee-North Carolina state line, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation. TDOT says the incident was reported early Sunday morning at milemarker three in North Carolina, and may take weeks to get cleared up.
