KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Two teenage girls accused of robbing one of the townhouses before setting it on fire over what police described as a drug deal gone bad are set to appear in Knox Co. Felony Court on February 10. Rachael DeLapp and Brittany Pettiford were each charged with Aggravated Arson, Theft, and Aggravated Burglary.
The nineteen year-old women are accused of breaking into the home at 3532 Old Valley View Road and stealing more than $500 worth of property before vandalizing the place. Afterwards, police say they set the townhouse on fire, which then spread to several more units. The other three units suffered significant damage.
The woman severely burned when a row of north Knoxville townhomes were set ablaze Sunday afternoon was identified in a Knoxville Police Dept. arrest warrant as Nora Thieringer.
Around 60% of Thieringer's body was burned, authorities said. She was taken to U.T Medical Center, but was later flow to Vanderbilt University Medical Center's burn unit.
Zahkeisha Malone said she saw her run out of the building, still in flames.
"She fell out on the floor and started having a seizure. Her hair was on fire, her skin was on fire," she described. "I gave her a towel to wrap around her body and she was just standing there screaming, shaking."
The other victim, according to police was a 17 year-old minor.
Several other people were displaced. The landlords said they've found new apartments or other properties for at least eight other tenants.
Pettiford was due to appear in court on Tuesday, as the victim of an alleged assault, but the District Attorney dropped the charges because of her recent arrest and incarceration.
