KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Four hours of deliberation and no verdict.
Friday morning, a jury will once again try to decide if a married couple killed a Knox County store owner.
The prosecution and defense gave their closing arguments in the trial of Robert and Destiny Hurst, accused of brutally killing Jim Mullins in his East Knox County store in 2009.
But by early Thursday evening, Judge Bob McGee dismissed the jury to start all over again Friday morning.
Bruce Poston for the defense and Takisa Fitzgerald for the prosecution got in final arguments, all in an attempt to convince a jury of innocence or guilt.
Poston put his hands on hips and said, "Do you not think there's a little DNA under the fingerprints and you think that medical examiner who is so impressive missed it, they missed it? Where is it?"
Fitzgerald said, "There were 3 weapons used on Mr. Mullins, who had absolutely no weapons."
Listening to it all, Jim's frustrated brother, Sonny Mullins.
"My brother wasn't just killed, he was destroyed. 28 stab wounds. They choked him so hard, the leather went through his neck, then they shot him in the back of the head. So these people aren't people, they're animals. I'm kind of disappointed, the state pays for this kind of defense they put on, and I know an attorney's got to make a living too, but they're wearing me out and it frustrates me."
Moving beyond the death of a loved one isn't easy. Now years later having to relive it all over again in a courtroom is even more difficult.
Sonny Mullins had one last comment. "It's been 2 and a half years and everyone of us feel like we've aged 10 years, not just our family but our friends."
That wait now extended to another day.
