WASHINGTON (AP) -- The nation's capital and its neighboring states take center stage in the 2008 presidential race today.

Voters in the District of Columbia, Virginia and Maryland will weigh in with primary votes.

On the Democratic side, Senator Barack Obama is expected to take all three elections today over Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. The current stretch of primary contests is proving to be a difficult one for Clinton. Obama swept five contests over the weekend and Clinton's not expected to win again until early March when delegate-rich Texas and Ohio hold their contests.

The Republican front-runner, Senator John McCain, is favored in today's votes and hoping to put more distance between his campaign and that of Republican underdog Mike Huckabee.

The former Arkansas governor beat McCain in two of three contests last weekend.
