DALLAS (AP) -- Hillary Rodham Clinton is planning to cut a rally short today in Fort Worth, Texas, so she can visit the family of a police officer who died in a crash while escorting her motorcade this morning.
The motorcade was heading to a rally in Dallas when the accident happened.
The officer, who was on a motorcycle, apparently crashed into a concrete barrier along a viaduct near downtown Dallas. Aerial video shows wreckage scattered for several yards.
Clinton says her campaign is "heartsick" about the officer's death, and says it's important to "respect and appreciate" the service of police.
Clinton says she plans to contact the police chief to express her sympathy.
The officer's name has yet to be released.
