LEBANON, Tenn. (AP) -- Country performer Charlie Daniels will be honored by Cumberland University May 3 for his service to others.

Daniels, a fiddler-guitarist who lives in nearby Mount Juliet, has performed for troops in the Middle East among other charitable work.

He will receive a special award during the school's 166th commencement.

Daniels, celebrating 50 years in music, is known for his hit "The Devil Went Down to Georgia."
