NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The heat wave continues across Tennessee, having claimed a tenth life in Memphis.
All of West Tennessee and the western third of Middle Tennessee remained under an excessive heat warning on Thursday, with predicted highs of 101 degrees in Memphis and 98 degrees in Nashville.
Forecasters urged people to try to stay in air conditioned places and to drink plenty of water.
A heat advisory was posted for nearly all of the eastern half of the state for Thursday. Expected highs were the lower 90s in the Tri-Cities, the mid-90s in Knoxville and the mid- to upper 90s in Chattanooga.
A strong chance of thunderstorms was expected to drop temperatures somewhat Thursday afternoon into the weekend, but extremely hot weather was forecast to return on Monday.
