CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A medical study has ranked Clarksville as the worst city in Tennessee for walking, and the ninth worst in the nation.
According to a study by Prevention magazine and the American Podiatric Medical Association, Clarksville received the rating based in large part to the lack of parks and green space in the city. Memphis was ranked as Tennessee's best city for walkers.
The national study released this week chose Cambridge, Mass., as the best walking city in the nation.
A spokeswoman for Prevention magazaine says the leading factors included the number of cars per household, the percentage of the population that walks to work, the number of parks per square mile, the crime rate and whether or not a city has a walkable downtown.
