MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- University of Memphis President Shirley Raines says police quickly determined there was no imminent danger to other students after a football player was fatally shot.
At a noon news conference, Raines said the residence halls were closed shortly after the shooting of Taylor Bradford was discovered late last night.
Authorities say the Nashville student was shot on campus after coming out of a residence hall.
The halls were closed to anyone who didn't live in them and were reopened at 7 a.m.
Asked about any suspects, Raines said police quickly determined "they" had fled the campus after the shooting.
An e-mail alert was sent at 3:44 a.m., but Raines says its purpose was tell student classes today were canceled. The "Tiger Text" alert was resent at 6:30 to make sure students saw it.
Memphis will play host to Marshall tomorrow night and there will be a moment of silence in memory of Bradford, who was a defensive lineman and a marketing major.
