KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)--This weekend is a huge weekend for Rocky Top.
It's the first game for the Big Orange, but it's also labor day and that means Boomsday festivities.
We talked with local businesses who will be reaping the rewards from this weekend.
Only 5 days until the football Vols run through orange and white checkerboard.
That means businesses will be seeing green.
Kim Bumpas with Knoxville's Tourism and Sports Corporation says, "We're going to have tons of people in town the whole weekend eating at our restaurants staying at our hotels."
Crowne Plaza downtown is always host to UT game day visitors.
Crowne Plaza's General Manager Ken Knight says, "On this weekend it's up several hundred percent."
Knight says his hotel will sell five times more rooms this weekend than on a non-game weekend.
Knight says, "Knoxville is a football town and UT has a very loyal following and the people who come to town come to town every game it's a part of life."
Another part of life for East Tennesseans is the Boomsday festival along Neyland Drive at Volunteer Landing.
It's the largest labor day fireworks show in the nation bringing in thousands of people.
Bumpas says, "It's going to be a really exciting weekend. Last year we pulled 400 thousand people for Boomsday and looks like we'll pull the same this year."
Two exciting events that bring fans to Knoxville and money to local businesses.
