KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Final preparations are underway, to provide a wonderful show for you for Boomsday 2010.

Hundreds of thousands of you are expected to take over Neyland Drive for the day of fun, culminating with some changes to the annual fireworks display.

Volunteer TV takes you behind the scenes, before the big show.

The highlight of Boomsday every year in Knoxville, is the fireworks show, but that is the grand finale to a day full of fun.

Kim Bumpas with Knoxville Tourism and Sports Corporation, said, "We actually start at 1, so there are going to be things going on all day long, because the fireworks don't start until 9:30. So, you should come down and walk around, there's going to be concessions, lots of good food and beverage, "

The Knoxville Tourism and Sports Corp. says about 400,000 people came out for Boomsday last year, and they expect even more Sunday, with wonderful weather.

Kim said, "We're going to put on a show that's as good as last year, and last year was said to be the best we've ever done."

For the event to be free for you every year, they rely on sponsors.

For years, Chrysler-Jeep was a presenting sponsor for Boomsday, but they pulled out for 2010. But, the show this year, should not be impacted, as organizers worked to gather more sponsors and new features for the day of activities.

Kim said, "We were able to re-group and rebound, and just as any other festival in the country, you're going to always be selling the opportunity and trying to get people to sign on, and we were very successful in that."

Ready to shoot the fireworks off from the Henley Street Bridge, the Pyro Shows crew is already nearby, preparing each one to ensure a great show.

Technician Jim Edwards said, "So, we actually drop all the shells and fuse everything, and cover it, get it ready to shoot."

And, this year's Boomsday literally starts off with a big bang, as 15,000 fireworks will be shot off in the first 30 seconds.

"It starts off quick," said Jim, adding, "They're small effects but it's a fast song, and just a lot of effects."

Pyro Shows has spent the past year, planning the spectacle, with nearly 60,000 fireworks.

Jim said, "We always shoot different, new shells and new effects, and then we have the fan favorites, the waterfall, and we play 'Rocky Top' with orange and white, of course."

So, look to the sky for 20 minutes of excitement.

The Knoxville Tourism and Sports Corp. has some important information that should help make it easier to get to Boomsday, and get around the area this year. For all the details, CLICK HERE.
