KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)--Knoxville police have shot and killed the man they say was the suspect in the fatal S&S Cafeteria shooting Thursday night.

Officials say they've been following Michael Chesney Friday and closed in on him at an apartment at Walter P. Taylor homes.

Chesney reportedly fired at one officer, Brandon Stryker, hitting him in his bullet proof vest.

That's when other officers fired multiple shots at Chesney, killing him.
KPD spokesperson Darrell DeBusk says the officer who was hit is okay.

Police say Chesney walked into the S&S Cafeteria Thursday night, with a gun and tried to rob cashier Dan Giles.

Giles and Chesney reportedly got into a fight when Chesney fired hitting Giles in the chest.

Giles died Thursday night at UT Medical Center.

Officer Stryker is recuperating at home.
He is an Iraqi War veteran and has been with KPD since 2006.

The other two officers involved in the shooting are Krista Shepperd, 40, and John Holmes, 39.

Shepperd has been with KPD since 1996 and Holmes since 2001.

All three will be on paid administrative leave until the investigation is complete.

That is standard operating procedure when there is an officer-involved shooting.

So glad this creep is off the streets and won't be able to repeat this act again. Tax payers are keeping up too many of the likes of him now waiting for trials that seem to favor the criminal rather than the victim.

How long is it going to take them to know it was or was not the same gun that shot the S&S employee? Should be very simple.
