Oak Ridge (WVLT) - Doctors at U.T. Medical Center are treating a child that was hit by a school bus.
The Oak Ridge Police Department says a 12 year-old girl, who is a 7th grader at Robertsville Middle School, was riding her bicycle at about 2:55 p.m. Friday afternoon.
They say she fell and landed in the access lane from N. Illinois Avenue to Westbound Oak Ridge Turnpike.
A school bus was passing at the same time and the bus' right rear wheels ran over her.
A witness says he saw it all happen.
"I dialed 911 as I jumped out of my truck, ran up and tried to ask her her name, out my hand on her back and said a prayer to God for her and her family," said Dennis McCormick.
The Lifestar Medical helicopter took the child to U.T. Medical Center for treatment.
Her condition is not known but sources tell us she has a serious head injury.
The bus driver and students on the bus were not hurt.
The cause of the accident is being investigated.
