Knoxville (WVLT) - Downtown Knoxville has a new place for businesses and residents to drop off recyclables.
A recycle center is now set up at 400 State Street.
The center can take cardboard, glass, newspaper, mixed papers, aluminum cans and plastic.
It does not accept household garbage or compost material.
A Goodwill trailer will also be available to accept donations in the future.
Solid Waste Specialist John Homa says it's good for the environment and the community.
"A lot of people are looking for something they can do because of the current global climate change, things happening with environment and they're wanting to do things and this is another opportunity to do that."
The center is open seven days a week from 9:00am to 5:00pm.
It's made possible by a joint effort between the city and the county.
The county is leasing the property to the city at no cost.
