BLUFF CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- A utility crew has repaired a water line break in Bluff City, but a street remains closed and trains have been slowed because of ground settling.
Mayor Bob Thomas said Monday the six-inch water main had been repaired, but Railroad St. remained closed because the pavement had sunk.
Thomas said the Norfolk Southern Railroad poured rock Sunday night into an area where tracks had sunk a few inches nearby and trains were creeping through the area at 10 mph.
Thomas said utility officials believe much of the water from the broken line drained into a cave so it wasn't evident until it had washed away some of the soil.
