Cumberland County (WVLT) - A Cumberland County substitute teacher is out of jail and waiting for a court date at the end of the month. She's accused of having sex with a student.

Volunteer TV's Liz Tedone has the details.

The alleged incident happened back in September or October, just months before the teen was to turn 18. He'll have a birthday on February 10th.

The indictment states 26-year-old Heather Chesser is accused of statutory rape by an authority figure and sexual battery by an authority figure.

The Crossville teacher is expected back in court on January 25th.

Officials at the Phoenix School, an alternative school in Crossville, called investigators about an incident they say involved inappropriate contact between the substitute teacher and a teenage male student.

Chesser's posted $10,000 bond and will appear in court later this month.

Has she been convicted already? If I understand this correctly, the school seems to be for troubled teens to put it lightly. Anyone ever heard of a 17 year old boy talking crap about all the girls he has had or am I the first??? Remember, anyone can be falsely accused.

unknown, get a clue. if the guy felt intimidated by her, he would have told someone. doubt if he was the nerdy type.. the teach wouldn't have hooked up with him. and I'm sure he didn't have a thing to do it, right ?

whether his innocence was taken or not it is a moot point. the fact that she was allowed there should be of more concern. we as parents have to go through a strict background check to even help out in our own child's classroom yet apparently a pedophile has no problem entering a child's classroom. these kids are put into this program because they have problems and yet a teacher can make life worse for them. what is this world coming to. i fear every day to send my kids to school and this is exactly why!!!!!

I doubt she "took away his innocence". I believe teachers need to be checked out more before being given a job. However, i doubt it took much persuasion for hime to have sex with her.

Dont't people care anymore about what they do how can you go out and take a young persons innonence away from them . They have them over a barrel either the student has sex with them or they do not pass the class and the students feel they have no other choice people get a life and leave our young people alone
