(WVLT) Spring is the season of growth.

Trees are budding, plants are growing, the weather is getting warmer.

This is the time of year when hope springs eternal.

That feeling of optimism often translates to our personal relationships, as well.

No coincidence, then, that May through December relationships begin when they do!

We're covering East Tennessee Health tonight, with more on how spring fever can also heat up your love life!

If you suffer from sad or seasonal affective disorder during the fall and winter months, consider this therapy.

From cabin fever to spring fever, most of us find the cure is getting outside and getting a little sunlight.

Dr. John Robertson, Center for Family Psychiatry says,"we're out doing more things and being with more people and just having more energy and vitality, and that lends to these relationships."

Dr. Robertson says sunlight triggers chemical reactions in the brain, which make us feel good.

"There really is something about our brain chemistry almost changing with the days getting longer and the sunlight getting stronger and it almost is just like our blood flowing more. And love is in the air!"

It's a phenomenon that takes place among young and old alike.

The wild swings in weather we often experience during the spring months can also trigger swings in behavior.

And while those changes are mostly positive, parents need to keep a closer eye on teenagers, especially those who are sensitive to change.

"And I do think there's something to be said for spring fever and teenagers also, with regard to falling in love in the spring and those activities."

Try to keep routines as consistent as possible, but enjoy your time in the sun, safely.

It's only a matter of months before daylight savings time falls back to eastern standard time.

And the sun sets on those May through December relationships.
