KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT/AP) -- Delta has joined American in canceling some flights on Thursday to voluntarily re-inspect some of the airline's fleet of MD-80 and MD-90 jets, according to the Associated Press.
American Airlines will also cancel some flights again today as inspections continue.
The cancellations will not affect any flights into or out of Knoxville's McGhee Tyson Airport because neither airline flies MD-80 or MD-90 aircraft to Knoxville.
But delays are possible, due to lack of open gate space at Atlanta's Hartsfield International Airport.
If you're flying out of Knoxville, your connection out of Atlanta may be delayed or canceled as well.

A Delta spokeswoman says the airline expects about 275 cancellations through tomorrow morning. American Airlines has also canceled 132 of its estimated 2,300 flights scheduled for today.
Delta is expecting heavy volume at its hub at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Both Delta and the Transportation Security Administration are bringing in extra staff to handle the crowd of travelers.
In a statement on their website, Delta says: Safety is Delta's No. 1 priority and we take Airworthiness Directives very seriously. Delta is working in full partnership with the FAA and has begun proactively and voluntarily revalidating the full compliance of a prior Airworthiness Directive that was completed earlier this year. We expect this voluntary review, which will take place on Delta's MD88 aircraft to have some impact to the operation. Delta apologizes in advance for any inconvenience this may cause and will work proactively to contact and reaccomodate any affected customers.
American says it began its inspections after an audit of the carrier by a joint team of inspectors from the Federal Aviation Administration and the airline, which canceled 325 flights yesterday.
However, an American spokesman says the airline expects all but a few of the inspected planes to be back in service tomorrow.
