KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Both sides have presented their case, and rested in the murder accessory trial of Eric DeWayne Boyd.

The jury will hear closing arguments starting around 1:15 this afternoon before they start deliberating.

The prosecution and defense each get an hour to present their closing arguments.

Several jurors appeared visibly upset as they heard the medical examiner testify about how Channon Christian died, a slow death in a trash can, after suffering an extreme sexual assault.

Even though Eric Boyd is not accused of committing these crimes, prosecutors must prove Lemaricus Davidson committed a crime before they can convict Boyd as an accessory.

The assistant medical examiner tells jurors that Channon had bruises on her arms, legs, back and genital area.

There was also evidence of brain bruising and what the medical examiner calls extreme sexual trauma.

She testified that the cause of death was asphyxia, caused by a plastic bag over her face and the position of her body when it was stuffed in the trashcan.
The time of death is said to be late in the afternoon or in the evening of Sunday, January 7, 2007.

Immediately after the medical examiner testimony, prosecutors called a string of witnesses, who gathered and analyzed evidence.

A T.B.I. forensic agent testified that rape kit samples taken from Channon Christian's body matched DNA samples taken from Lemaricus Davidson and Letalvis Cobbins.

Before presenting the defendant's case, Boyd's lawyer made the standard motion, asking the judge to acquit Boyd. The judge denied the motion, allowing the trial to move forward.

The jury could begin deliberating later today or tomorrow.
