KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The first trial ends with the first guilty verdict in connection with the deaths of Channon Christian, 21, and Christopher Newsom, 23.

The only one of the five suspects not charged with murder, Eric DeWayne Boyd is guilty of being an accessory, according to the jury.

The jury has spoken, convicting Eric Boyd of two counts.

After five hours of deliberation, they found Boyd guilty of being an accessory after the fact, and concealing a felon, agreeing with the prosecution that he helped hide murder suspect Lemaricus Davidson from police, while failing to report his crimes.

This battle is over, but the victim's families know the war will be long.

The victims' families celebrate the word they've been waiting to hear for more than a year: Guilty.

Eric Boyd's conviction today is the first, but family members pray it won't be the last.

Channon Christian's father Gary Christian says, "One down, four to go, baby. We got more to go on this one too. Eric boyd's gonna hear from us."

What Eric Boyd heard from the jury today will likely mean 15 years in federal prison, after sentencing August 12th.

Next year may bring four more trials, death penalty cases against the four accused murderers.

Even on this day, Chris Newsom's mother is thinking about that.

Mary Newsom says, "They really, really tortured them beyond a normal killing, so whatever the others get, that's what they deserve."

Knoxville Police Sgt. Tim Snodderly says, "This is just a small part of what we've got going on. This is just a first step, and we're extremely happy with the verdict we got today. We've got a long way to go but this is a little bit of justice for the family."

These families say they heard Eric Boyd's brother on television last night, saying he feels their pain. But the words mean nothing to those who lost loved ones.

Deana Christian, Channon's mother says, "Let them lose one of theirs, and then go through the hell we went through, and then maybe they can say something."

Gary Christian says, "Channon's sitting on our shoulders."

Lemaricus Davidson is charged with the actual carjacking, kindnapping, and murders of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom.

those scum suckers are not human and would be an insult to the animal world...how can five entities induce such torture, rape, sodomy and mutilation...they should be taken out to the wodds and allow the the relatives of each victim bull whip them....after that, how about stripping them naked, cover them with syrup, then force them to lay on hills of fire ants....just before the screaming stops...lynch them and set them on fire for all to see....only than will people have an idea of what that young couple went through that night

There are Black vermin There are White vermin. Whatever the color or race of the vermin - vermin needs to be executed. Slowly and painfully. And by the way - many attorneys also qualify as vermin.

This is not something that is sad, what happened to these two kids was devastatingly tragic. I am a black male, who thinks these animals have NO place in a civilized world, and should die. When one is that devoid of value, compassion, common sense, the they need to go. End of story. As a parent my heart goes out to the parents of the victums. If this was my kids, I am not sure I would have the restraint these parents have. I wont say God give the parents strenght, because a God would not have let it happened in the first place. it's up to each one of us to be good and prtect each other.

Once they are all found guilty, they should be taken outside for an immediate public execution. No jail, no appeals, nothing.

How sad, how horribly sad. I am weak in the eyes of the predators, my prayers are said tonight with your name on my breath, your story in my heart and a song in my soul, together they make a wonderful melody, much like your beloved. Bless your hearts, mine weeps for you.

This has been a horrible journey for the loved ones of the victims. God Bless them and give them the strength to continue their march towards justice.

I call on all who believe in the saving power of Jesus to stand in the gap for the families of the innocent and the guilty. Acts 26:18 'to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of satan to God, that they may recieve forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.'

I am relieved a little to hear of the begining of justice for all who were involved in this grusome crime.although it will be much better when all of them get the punishment they all deserve.I pray it will be the death penalty to those who actually had part in this grusome murder.I have been in a mouring state every since I first heard of this horrible murder. I can't sleep because of it, I keep imagining what that poor young couple went through before they died. I am horrified to think any human being with a beating heart could do such a horrible act.I have been having horrible nightmares every since the murders.and wake up screaming and my husband has to console me. My heart goes out to the parents of channon and christopher I cannot imagine their pain. I pray for them during the trials, that God will give them the strength they need.I am truly so sorry for their pain.

All of us in the "Human" species have cried tears of sorrow and disbelief regarding the horrific and unthinkable way this young couple were treated and killed. Is this what our "societies" young adults are capable of doing? There would be no court that could decide an appropriate decision to help ease the families suffering and loss and extreme rage in how Channon & Chris were treated. Who in the world would ever treat a rabid animal with such cruelty? No, there can never be enough years, injections, or volts to ease Channon & Chris' families sufferings and loss. My heart breaks for them and May God Hold & Keep You All Close!
