BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- There's a warning coming from the Blount County Sheriff's Office about an overseas lottery scam.

The BCSO says several people have received letters claiming to be from a Spanish lottery organization asking the "winner" to fill out a form using their bank account information, so that their winnings can be automatically deposited.

The mailing is from "El Combo Once International Lotto Commission" in Madrid, Spain.

“We are aware of these notices, and we are passing the information on to federal authorities,” Sheriff Berrong said. “Disregard these fraudulent notices. Once you have sent any money, or given out your bank account information, it is very difficult, if impossible, to get your money back because it is overseas.”

The BCSO says the fraudulent letters can also show up in your email inbox.

I am employed at a check cashing company and have seen in increase in fraudulent check. These checks usually arrive via mail and may state that you have won something or maybe for a home improvement project. I have seen others claiming they are a publishers clearing house prize,or maybe a work from home project check. THey may ask you to send money back. consumers beware it is a crime to cash these.
