KNOXVILLE (WVLT) The morning commute during Day 1 of the Smartfix 40 shutdown went off mostly without a hitch.
A section of I-40 was shut down at midnight last night so T-DOT can begin their work.
Thursday morning, a light at the intersection of Summit Hill and Hall of Fame was stuck on red for a while.
That ignited a more than 3 mile backup starting at the Hall of Fame exit west bound on I-40.
There were also some backups at Magnolia Avenue because of the light malfunction.
Crews got the problem cleared up in about 30 to 40 minutes, and travel resumed, but still at a slower pace.
