NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A disagreement between lawmakers and the governor over a tax bill could lead to more state jobs being cut.

House Majority Leader Gary Odom, a Nashville Democrat, says he's unhappy with the late introduction -- and the uncertain impact -- of the governor's proposal to end a $15 million tax break for family owned businesses.

Democratic Gov. Phil Bredesen calls the current rules a loophole for wealthy families.

If lawmakers don't approve the governor's proposal, they will have to find the money elsewhere amid a projected $468 million budget shortfall.

Odom suggests the state could trim vacant positions in state government on top of the 2,000 current state jobs that Bredesen has already targeted for elimination.
