KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Modern day gas wars are reaching beyond the usual battle grounds. If you're a child of the 60's and 70's, you may remember when gas stations fought tooth and nail for your business.

You could drive down, Clinton Highway and see gas stations battle back and forth by lowering their prices.

But now, the gas war is seeming being played out on TV.

If you've watched TV the past few days, you've probably seen car dealers talking gas ahead of price.

Whether you're buying or selling, gas is a concern. It ranks right up there with interest and monthly payments.

Mike Hatmaker is with Jim Cogdill Dodge and says, "Well, everybody's got concerns. This is just one concern that the consumer might have. But it takes it away."

Jim Cogdill Dodge is locking-in the price you pay for gas and diesel for the next three years.

Hatmaker says, "Some people might wait to make a buying decision depending on what the price of gas is. So, here you've got it guaranteed for three years at $2.99 a gallon."

The offer is good on gasoline or diesel when you buy or lease most new Dodge vehicles. That's up to 12,000 miles each of the three years.

Hatmaker says, "And you've got the combination on gas-rebate, gas-interest rate. So, it's got something for everybody. It's like a smorgasbord of deals, incentives."

Across town, at Rusty Wallace Honda Frank Cardwell says, "Not only do you get a good car, but the fuel economy is what we focus on with the "dump the pump" campaign."

Honda's "Dump the Pump" sales event centers around its cars that get more than 30-miles per gallon, including the Civic, Accord, and the Fit.

Cardwell says, "People are seeking out the gas mileage."

In an ever-changing market, Cardwell says, "We're seeing a change in our traffic. We're seeing people. The traffic has not slowed down, it's the needs that have changed."

And gas wars are not just for car dealers.

Even though it's on the Airport Motor Mile, Chilhowee RV is giving 500 gallons of fuel when you buy a new 2007 diesel motor home.
