NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A proposal to stop young teenagers from getting limited licenses for small-engine motorcycles is headed to the governor for his consideration.
The bill sponsored by Sen. Tim Burchett, a Knoxville Democrat, unanimously passed the Senate on Tuesday. It was approved 84-11 in the House last month.
The legislation would do away with the limited licenses for ages 14 to 16. About 85 teens have such licenses.
Current law restricts the limited licenses to motorcycles with engines smaller than 125 cubic centimeters and scooters that are designed to go slower than 30 miles per hour.
Gov. Phil Bredesen could not be immediately reached for comment about whether he will sign the bill.
