UPDATE 5/26/08 5:00 p.m.:

CLAXTON, Tenn. (WVLT) -- What neighbors describe as a three story mansion burned to the ground Monday in the Claxton area of Anderson County.

The blaze started around 1:45 p.m. on Peak Lane, and witnesses say it only took about 20 minutes for flames to engulf the home.

A neighbor told Volunteer TV News the steep driveway was making it tough for firefighters to put out the flames.

The same neighbor says the fire moved onto her property, and burned part of a ridge she owns.

She says crews dug trenches to stop the fire from spreading, and now says the fire looks like it's smoldering, with some smoke still visible.

Several area fire departments responded to fight the blaze.
