WHITLEY COUNTY (WVLT) -- Interstate 75 at the Kentucky line re-opened Saturday afternoon after a deadly and fiery wreck closed its north bound lanes.

It happened about 4:00 AM in Whitley County. According to Kentucky State police, a tractor trailer lost control, ran off the interstate and hit a culvert on the side of the road. It then ran up an embankment, flipped over and caught on fire.

The driver, Shannon Lee Fisk, 40 of Covington, Kentucky was pronounced dead on the scene. An investigation was still underway on Saturday evening.

While the accident was cleaned up, northbound traffic was routed off I-75 at mile marker 160 in Jellico. Traffic re-opened shortly after noon.

First I would like to thank everyone on behalf of the family and friends for your prayers. This has been a shock to all of us.Neither his family or friends can even begin to have an answer as to why this has happened. He has always been a safe driver. As we read the stories and comments of the accident we grow to have even more questions. We are sorry if this caused any delays in your travel plans due to the interstate closure, but I am hoping that you can put a detour route behind you and think of the people who just lost a great person in such a horrific manner.(As you can see from pictures)He loved his life, family, and friends.I ask that you keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers as they grieve the loss of their son, brother, uncle, and friend.A truly unique person he is.Once again I thank you on behalf of his family and friends.

My prayers go out to the family and friends of the deceased. I pray that all those that were delayed in traffic said a prayer for the victim and the family and reflected on how thankful they are to be alive.

We were stuck in the traffic for over 2 hours until they started turning the traffic arround. Now the state new the Interstate would have to be closed for some time so why did they have us sitting for so long before they stated to turn us arround?

My husband was caught up in the traffic jam as drivers navigated the detour. It took him 2 1/2 hours to go the 12 miles or so to get back on I75. It would have been nice to have the approximate detour time posted as many drivers were caught unprepared for such a long drive around. Our prayers go out to the truck drivers family.

The State of Kentucky is the worst! We sat southof the accident (approx 6 mi) for three hours with no sign of help

Tennessee officials were very helpful in re-routing traffic due to this tragic incident. Unfortunatelly, the Kentucky officials or KSP were not even present. With the hundreds, possibly thousands of vehicles that were diverted through the rural areas of US 25, there was no assistance upon reaching the KY state line. This was a major dissapointment in the level of concern that the KSP demonstrated in keeping traffic flowing in a safe manner.
