GERMANTOWN, Tenn. (AP) -- Germantown police are trying to find out who's responsible for decapitating a statue of the Virgin Mary at a local church.
Father Edwin Creary told WMC-TV in Memphis he discovered the statue when he arrived at Our Lady of Perpetual Help last week. He said it's been a part of the church for over 50 years.
Investigators believe someone put a rope around the large statue and pulled it down with a car.
A smaller statue of baby Jesus was also pulled over.
Church leaders say they will replace the statues with new ones if they can't be repaired.
