KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- About one in five Tennessee retirees and disabled veterans still haven't filed to get their IRS stimulus check.
IRS spokesman Dan Boone crunched some numbers, and says 123,000 retirees and disabled vets still need to file, and their missing out on big bucks.
"Just assuming that each of those 123,000 state wide would get the minimum $300 -- that's about $36.9 million dollars that these folks could collect if they would file a 2007 return and claim this rebate."
Boone says there are more than 22,000 people right here in Knox and surrounding counties who could get hundreds of dollars if they'd only file a return.
If you don't usually file a return, Boone says you should do it anyway. It's the only way you're going to get a stimulus payment.
You still have plenty of time, but there is an October 15 deadline, so if you haven't filed by then, it'll be too late.
