KNOXVILLE (WVLT) – A Knoxville family that lost its house to fire two years ago finally found a new permanent home over the weekend.
Kharessa Barber and her four children started moving into the Wilson Avenue home after a dedication ceremony on Saturday morning. Barber was able to move into the house thanks to a little help from Larry D. Wright, the president of a local development and investment group. After the fire, the family lived in an apartment complex that Wright’s company managed, and the two became friends.
Wright’s company helped Barber get a low rate federally subsidized loan to purchase the new environmentally friendly home, which was built with accommodations for her son who has cerebral palsy.
“The best part of the day was actually going in the house and knowing that that was my home and it will never be another home that I just call home again," Barber said.
The dedication also included a local marching band and the whole thing was recorded by a camera crew for a possible television show.
