MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) -- The prosecutor in Murfreesboro said a sheriff's detective whose car struck and killed a Kentucky girl was not under the influence of alcohol.

Investigators are awaiting results of a drug screening.

The unmarked patrol vehicle driven by Sgt. Ron Killings of the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office hit 11-year-old Lakeisha White last week as the Hopkinsville, Ky., child crossed the street toward her aunt's home while visiting her grandmother.

She died about three hours later and was buried Wednesday in Hopkinsville.

District Attorney General Bill Whitesell said Wednesday a blood-alcohol test came back negative on Killings, a 12-year veteran of the department. He was placed on routine leave following the incident.

Investigators have said White darted in front of Killings' car.

The sheriff's office has said it won't comment on the case until an investigation is completed.
